Frequently Ask Questions
Yes. All Clearly Better Scents™ products comply with the highest level of safety and regulatory compliance. Our aromas are purchased from world-renowned flavor and fragrance houses. These suppliers are members of the International Fragrance Association (IFRA). Clearly Better Scents™ will only sell products that have been produced by IFRA member companies that adhere to the IFRA Code of Practice.
The IFRA Standards form the basis for the globally accepted and recognized risk management system for the safe use of fragrance ingredients and are part of the IFRA Code of Practice. This industry system is self-regulated based on risk assessments carried out by an independent Expert Panel.
The Expert Panel is composed of renowned independent experts from related fields including dermatology, toxicology, pathology, and environmental sciences. Their role is to evaluate the data on a fragrance to see if it supports the current use level, ensuring there is no risk to you as the consumer.
In cases where the safety assessment does not support the current use, the expert panel instructs the IFRA to issue a standard restricting or banning a material.
The IFRA Code of Practice is a comprehensive document supporting the IFRA commitment to providing products that are safe for use by consumers and to the environment. It applies to the manufacturing and handling of all fragrance materials for all types of applications and contains the full set of IFRA Standards.
Abiding by the IFRA Code of Practice is a prerequisite for all fragrance supplier companies that are members of IFRA, either directly or through national associations.
Amendments to the Code of Practice, if required, are issued annually based on new scientific developments. These amendments contain new usage restrictions or revisions to existing usage restrictions. The IFRA Code of Practice is distributed worldwide and is in the hands of all member associations and their member companies, including government regulated bodies.
Clearly Better Scents™ aromas comply with IFRA Standards as set out in the Code of Practice.
When you receive a Clearly Better Scents™ aroma you will also receive an IFRA Letter of Compliance and a Safety Data Sheet (SDS). The Letter of Compliance verifies that the aroma adheres to the Code of Practice and the most recent IFRA amendments. The SDS provides workers with procedures for handling or working with the aroma in a safe manner.
It is our goal at Clearly Better Scents™ to provide you with a pleasant and safe fragrance experience.
Fragrances are complex mixtures of organic chemicals (carbon-based materials). This category of ingredients includes synthetic aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, terpenes, alcohols, phenols, glycols, aldehydes, esters, ketones, acids, amines, and natural materials including oils, resins, and concretes.
Fragrances contain anywhere from 5 to 1000 ingredients and are used at levels from .02% up to 100% pure oil in a finished application. The Clearly Better Scents™ scent diffusion equipment uses pure perfume oil. All perfume oils used by Clearly Better Scents™ are IFRA/RIFM compliant and adhere to the highest level of regulatory compliance.
The pure perfume oil (fragrance) and diffusion system meet all regulatory standards set forth by CARB VOC (California Air Resources Board – Volatile Organic Compounds) legislation.
Yes. All of our fragrances are IFRA (International Fragrance Association) compliant and are safe to use around pets. IFRA sets standards for the fragrance industry to abide by and promotes safe use of fragrances through their standards and regulations. These standards ban, limit, or set criteria for the use of certain ingredients, based on scientific evidence and consumer insights. Our fragrances have been formulated by these standards and have been certified.

Our fragrances are diffused through cold-air diffusion technology which release vapor particles, in the 1-micron range, into the air. This method diffusers the fragrances in their purest form without the use of heat, diluting in water or alcohols.
We offer a line of scent machines for two types of scenting:
Our portable machines serve to scent specific areas in a home or business and are plugged into an outlet. This includes the CB-100 and the CB-250.
Our HVAC fed scent machines are designed to scent through the airducts of your home or business for a more complete scenting experience. This includes the CB-250 and the CB-800.
Yes. The Fan on the thermostat must be in the ON position, rather than AUTO, at all times. This ensures proper scent pull through the airducts for the best possible scent experience. Not doing so will result in inconsistent scenting throughout your space.
The length of how long the fragrance will last varies on the hours per day and intensity level you set your scent machine.
A 16oz bottle of fragrance generally lasts around 1 month when diffused 8 hours per day. Ultimately this will vary based on the intensity level.
Each machine comes with an instruction manual containing steps to customizing your scent machine.
For select machines, we have video tutorials for setup here.
When switching fragrance oils, we recommend emptying the old fragrance from the scent machine bottle. Clean the now empty bottle thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and let sit for up to 15 minutes. Remove the rubbing alcohol and rinse thoroughly with water. Refill the bottle with the next fragrance oil.
